Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena will miss the club’s first two competitive matches of 2026 due to a two-match suspension. The news has been confirmed as Sundowns prepare to resume their Betway Premiership campaign later this month following the festive break.
Sundowns, who are the reigning Betway Premiership champions, will return to league action on 20 January when they host Orbit College at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria. This match will be followed by a postponed fixture against Sekhukhune United, now rescheduled for 27 January at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. Mokoena will not be available for either of these games.
The suspension comes as a blow to Sundowns, as Mokoena remains one of the most influential midfielders in the squad. He has been a key figure in both domestic and continental competitions, offering leadership, composure on the ball, and a strong defensive presence in midfield. His absence means head coach Rulani Mokwena will have to adjust his midfield options during an important phase of the season.
The fixture against Orbit College will be particularly interesting, as the newly promoted side continues to test itself against the league’s strongest teams. Sundowns are expected to dominate possession, but the absence of Mokoena could slightly affect their control in central areas.
