Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has shed light on the absence of new recruits Ethan Chislett and Nkanyiso Shinga from the first team this season. The pair, who joined as part of Chiefs’ major squad overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, have yet to make their competitive debuts despite featuring prominently during the club’s pre-season tour in the Netherlands.
Chislett and Shinga are among 11 fresh faces brought in during the recent transfer window as Amakhosi seek to rebuild and strengthen their squad. Their lack of appearances has sparked debate among fans, with some calling for their immediate inclusion to inject energy into the side after a run of mixed results.
Addressing the matter, Ben Youssef urged patience, insisting both players are adapting well to the demands of the team. “Ethan and Shinga are working hard in training. We, as the coaching team, are monitoring their readiness and will introduce them when the timing is right. Their attitude and performance in practice have been excellent,” he said.
In the temporary absence of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, Ben Youssef has been at the helm and delivered stability, collecting 10 points from a possible 12 in four league outings. His steady leadership has eased concerns, even as the club weighs its options regarding Nabi’s position.
Some of the new signings have already made their mark, with striker Khanyisa Mayo opening his account on debut in the 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants. Chiefs have now completed seven matches this season, carefully rotating their squad while easing new additions into competitive action.
While Chislett and Shinga wait for their opportunity, Ben Youssef stressed that the long-term plan remains key: balancing results with the gradual integration of fresh talent to sustain Chiefs’ ambitions this season.
