Sundowns Announce Non-Renewal of Khuliso Mudau’s Contract As they Part Way In 2026

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced that defender Khuliso Mudau will leave the club once his contract expires in June 2026, confirming that no extension will be offered to the long-serving left-back.

Mudau’s departure will bring his four-year stay at Chloorkop to a close. Since joining from Polokwane City in 2022, the 29-year-old has made more than 100 appearances across all competitions and played a vital role in Sundowns’ recent triumphs — including the 2023–24 PSL title and the MTN 8 win.

In explaining the decision, Sundowns said the move aligns with their broader squad restructuring strategy aimed at refreshing key positions and creating space for new talent to emerge. “Khuliso has been an exceptional professional and an important part of our journey,” the club said. “But as we evolve, we must open pathways for upcoming players and strategic signings.”

Mudau, celebrated for his speed, defensive awareness, and attacking contributions, admitted the news was emotional. “Leaving a club where you’ve grown so much is tough,” he said. “I’m grateful to the supporters, coaches, and my teammates. I’ll give everything until my final whistle here and look forward to what lies ahead.”

His impending exit paves the way for academy prospects and new recruits to compete for the left-back role , a position that has been crucial to Sundowns’ dominance in domestic and continental competitions. Analysts say the decision reflects Sundowns’ long-term planning and their commitment to staying ahead of the curve.

Rumours about Mudau’s next move are already gaining momentum. Several PSL sides — including Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Cape Town City — are believed to be interested, while overseas clubs are also reportedly watching closely.

Supporters and pundits have applauded Mudau for his consistency, professionalism, and unwavering work ethic. While his absence will be felt, Sundowns remain confident that their succession strategy will keep them competitive at the highest level.
