Cardoso Criticizes PSL Over Unplanned Fixture Reschedule

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has voiced his frustration following the unexpected rescheduling of their Betway Premiership clash against Cape Town City. The fixture, originally set for the weekend, has been brought forward by a day, a decision Cardoso believes disrupts the team's preparation and planning.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Cardoso did not hold back on his disappointment, citing the lack of consultation and the impact such changes have on the team's rhythm and logistics. "It is unacceptable that such a critical match is shifted without proper communication or consideration of the implications it has on our training schedule, player recovery, and travel arrangements," he said.

Sundowns, who are currently chasing yet another league title, have had a congested calendar due to their involvement in domestic and continental competitions. Cardoso stressed that stability in scheduling is essential for a club that already operates under intense pressure to perform consistently across multiple fronts.

“This change not only affects us but also the integrity of the competition. Planning is part of professional football, and sudden shifts like this compromise that,” the coach added.

Cape Town City, meanwhile, have not issued a statement regarding the rescheduling. However, the Citizens will also have to adapt quickly to the change as they look to challenge one of the league’s most dominant teams.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has yet to clarify the reason for the date change, which has sparked concern among fans and analysts about the transparency and consistency of fixture management in the league.

As Sundowns prepare to adjust their plans, all eyes will be on how this sudden change affects their performance and whether the frustration voiced by Cardoso will translate into added motivation on the pitch
