Sundowns' coach break his silence on the star player's lack of game time

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has been chopping and changing his match-day squad. This speaks on players' availability since some stars had to be replaced due to injuries or fitness challenges. Sundowns have the luxury of a star-studded team which allows Mngqithi to have enough backup whenever a player cannot be used in a starting eleven. Now, Mngqithi has spoken about a forgotten hero at Chloorkop who has been a force to be reckoned with throughout his time with the club. He felt that the Yellow Nation needed to know about Neo Maema's exclusion from most games thus far.

According to the club's coach, Maema has been injured which hindered his performance and he had to go through rehabilitation. The Downs has only made three appearances thus far this season. He's used as an impact player, even when he was given a run against Cape Town City FC on Wednesday night, it was visible that he's still one of the best players within the club. He assisted Downs in walking away with maximum points, after the 3-0 victory over City. "I was impressed to see him coming back again because that left foot in midfield is always going to be very important for us," said the 53-year-old mentor speaking to the media.

It's clear that Sundowns value Maema's contribution to the side and they've been waiting for him to get back to the starting eleven. He suffered a long-term freak-off injury which is something that Mngqithi stated that the medical team has been working on over the past few months. "As for Neo, his injury is probably one thing that has taken him out for longer, not his performance," Mngqithi explained.
